Just a quick update for those of you wondering about conditions after the recent snowfall. The fierce wind has been doing its job and Abraham Lake is 80% snow-free. There is a dusting of snow on Highway 11.
The lake is completely frozen over with an ice thickness of 20+ cm at all major bubble viewing spots.
The Ice Bubbles Viewpoint and Hoodoo Creek offer the best bubble viewing conditions and decent skating away from shore. Abraham Slabs and Cline Landing also have good bubbles but the ice is a bit rougher at these locations. Receding water levels are affecting ice quality at Preacher's Point but there are some cool ice features and great bubbles to be found if you look around. Watch for weak, fractured ice and areas of open water.
As always, be cautious navigating steep shorelines with fractured ice. Lower-angled sections are safer for accessing the lake and we highly recommend using traction devices.
It's a cold one out there this weekend! Stay warm everyone :)

Abraham Lake from Windy Point and Highway 11 near Windy Point.
The wind is blowing the recent snow off the ice and polishing its surface nicely.
