It's happening, folks! With temperatures dipping this week, the landscape is beginning to transform - bringing us those very first, long-awaited bubbles of the season. Preacher’s Point is starting to freeze up, with roughly 2-4 cm of fragile ice forming, with plenty of thinner, unpredictable spots scattered across the area. If you haven’t already, now’s the perfect time to brush up on our ice safety refresher as winter tightens its grip and the freeze up continues. Stay cautious in these early stages of ice season - if you do decide to go out on the ice, stay in shallow areas in case you fall through!

The rest of the lake is open water at this time, and will need a sustained stretch of extremely cold temperatures to freeze up fully. Stay tuned for regular updates in the coming weeks!

Early season is probably our favourite time to view the bubbles, with some of the clearest ice to be found all winter. Our tours start December 1, with lots of options to choose from, from 1.5 hr adventures to full day custom photography tours. Learn more and book here.
