We’ve been enjoying excellent ice conditions since Christmas, with very little change since our last update. Ice thickness averages 20+ cm at all main access points, and recent strong winds have left the surface exceptionally smooth and polished, with amazing bubble patches to be found. Cline Landing and Preacher’s Point still have significant snow coverage, and more snow fell last night in those areas.
A reminder to watch for weak and unstable ice along the shoreline, as this is where most incidents occur. As water levels drop, shoreline ice becomes increasingly slanted and unstable, making the return to your vehicle difficult. Ice traction devices are highly recommended.
We do have a heat wave moving in this weekend that is expected to last several days, which may lead to changing ice conditions. As always, for a snapshot of real-time conditions, follow our Instagram and Facebook stories, where we typically share daily updates whenever we’re on the lake.
These updates are shared for general awareness only. Always check ice thickness frequently and independently. Ice conditions can vary widely, and the presence of others on the ice does not guarantee it is safe. If you’re unsure about ice assessment, or simply want to find the best bubble spots, we strongly recommend joining one of our Ice Bubble Tours.
